Congressional Seafood Company, Inc. opened its doors in November 1996 with the mission to serve fine dining establishments and gourmet markets with high end seafood. With some of the industry's top salesmen and a processing room with highly trained fish cutters, we were able to offer a service that no other company in the area was able to achieve.

Going Green

worldCongressional Seafood is working closely with the company Greenavise in a genuine effort to make our company greener and more eco friendly. As well we are working with an "eco-coach" to asses our progress and learn what steps we can take in getting greener.

Some of the steps we have already taken include:

  • Using plastic reusable boxes rather than cardboard or styrofoam for delivering our fish.
  • Changed our light bulbs from conventional to more energy efficient bulbs.
  • 80% of our waste is compostable and is taken to a composting station. All recyclable materials are taken to a recycling center leaving very little of our waste to be taken to the dump.
  • We re-modeled our offices using all green products, from low VOC paints to recycled materials for desks and countertops.
  • We have lessened our daily water usage by replacing our high output firehoses with smaller garden hoses for daily clean up.
  • Utilizing as much fresh local product whenever possible to reduce the carbon footprint needed in bringing product to our facility.

Plans for the near future include:

  • We are working closely with the Maryland Seafood Market Authority to purchase a strofoam recycling machine which will reduce styrofoam to small pellets that can be reused in making more styrofoam fish boxes.
  • At Congressional Seafood it is our goal to become as green and eco-friendly as possible and we are always looking at ways to improve how to achieve this.
